c1869 Canton de Fribourg, Switzerland Tinted Photograph Adolphe Braun Costumes D c1869 Canton de Fribourg, Switzerland Tinted Photograph Adolphe Braun Costumes D A beautiful, and rare, hand tinted photograph by Adolphe Braun which is part of his series Costumes de Suisse from circa 1869. The Canton of Fribourg, Switzerland is an iconic image with what is speculated to be an image of Braun himself reflected back in the mirror. The photo features an beautiful young lady wearing a dress and hat typical of the area. She is standing in front of a fancy dresser with the lid to box held open. As noted, an ornately framed mirror sits just to her left with an image reflected back. Behind her is what looks like an ornately carved wood baby chair with a book set aside in its seat. The photo card measures approx 8 1/8" x 6 3/8" with the actual image sizing being about 6 1/4" x 4 1/2". I believe the photograph is of French origin and use the albumen silver print technique. Condition: tanning, foxing, spotting and board is wavy from moisture with edge wear.
