After a 5 month winter tour of all of Florida, our final stop was in the capital city of Tallahassee. Visting here for just a couple of days meant that we needed to get a tour in of the Florida statehouse. Upon arriving, we discovered that there we two state capitols standing on the same site. One, the old capitol with the classic “dome” architecture, and two, the new state capitol with the “skyscraper” design. We started with the old “dome” capitol. I couldn’t help but feel like I was stepping back in time, as I stood beneath the dome. How could something still be so powerful that it gives an entire state a story? Above me, the dome of history whispered tales of old Florida, a silent witness to everything in the capitol. There I was, using my lens to capture the complexity of the Florida State Capitol historic dome. The dome’s colorful stained glass fan bloomed out above like a flower, radiating energy, color and history. Sunlight passed through the blues, yellows and reds with life pulsing through them. The Florida State Capitol Dome felt like it was breathing, not as a symbol, but as the heart of the Florida State Capitol. Standing tall in downtown Tallahassee, this stained glass masterpiece seemed to sound like history. And over the years, the leaders, legislators and ordinary people had all passed beneath it. It was both a challenge and a joy to photograph it. I remember walking into the rotunda with eyes upward in awe. The glass glimmered with the light, shifting and shimmering. It was something I had to capture. Every angle mattered. Each frame needed to convey not just the structure but the deep sense of history it embodied. It’s not just taking a picture, it was trying to capture the essence of the state capitol dome. It's a wonder the dome has managed to stand the storms of time, surviving countless hurricanes. But here it still stands, a record of resilience and Florida’s journey. I looked through the lens, and couldn’t help but think—how many more stories does this dome hold?
