Description

Here we have an incredible 18 piece Yosemite themed photo collection with the absolute star being an unseen to the market faux wood cabinet card featuring President Teddy Roosevelt and naturalist, John Muir, during their historical meeting that resulted in what is now known as the National Parks System. This photo was taken by little known Yosemite photographer, George J. Reichel either right before or right after their famous photograph of the two of them at the base of the famous grizzly tree. They were thought to have traveled about the park during that trip on horseback, but this photo shows them getting around in a multi-seat buckboard wagon. An amazing historical photo. Also, featured in the collection are two gorgeous mounted photographs by photographer George Fiske. Both pieces are numbered and signed. His work is sought after because of his highly artistic captures, but also because of their rarity. Much of his work was lost in a fire at his studio and again at the archives that had his work. They are hand titled on the back, "Sentinel Rock 3270 ft" and "Down the Valley Spirit Land". Beautiful examples of Fiskes work. Another Fiske photo of the Wawona with teams of horses out front, with his stamp on the back. In the collection are 6 other large original photographs, no doubt taken and made by professional Yosemite photographers, but are unsigned. A beautiful one of the sunlight coming through the big trees is numbered and dated 1914. There is a 6 panel fold panoramic photograph of a Grove of the big trees. This photo has a 1" separation on one of the folds. There is a beautiful 10" x 12" hand tinted photograph of a cabin situated amongst the big trees. Also in the collection are 4 unique silver gelatin originals depicting naturalist settings of a long ago display that was created in early Yosemite history. They are quite fascinating and well done! Plus I'm throwing in two RPC postcards. This is a wonderful lot for a true Yosemite collector. There are some pieces here you won't see again. Please contact me with any questions .
