**Notables Honor Veteran Red Cross Leader** Washington, D.C., May 12 - Prominent men and women from all parts of the country and abroad attended a testimonial dinner last night at the Willard Hotel in honor of Miss Mabel Boardman, secretary of the American Red Cross. Glowing tributes were paid to Miss Boardman, who is now rounding out 37 years of volunteer service with the Red Cross. Miss Boardman is shown with Admiral Cary T. Grayson, chairman of the Red Cross, and toastmaster at the dinner. 5/12/37. Mabel Boardman was instrumental in transforming the American Red Cross into a major humanitarian organization during the early 20th century. Her leadership and organizational skills helped expand the scope and effectiveness of the Red Cross's relief efforts, both domestically and internationally. Admiral Cary T. Grayson, who served as the personal physician to President Woodrow Wilson, played a significant role in supporting and promoting the Red Cross's mission under Boardman's tenure. === This 7x8.5” original type 1 photograph is from the personal collection of photographer Wes Howland (1906-1956). Howland was a reporter with the Harris-Ewing news service in Washington D.C from 1931-1941, and went on to serve with the military. He was one of a small number of photographers with complete access to the White House, Capitol, Senate, and House. This photo was part of a collection of over 1200 8x10” Wes Howland personal archive images that we acquired from his estate. These original prints are exceptionally rare, if not the only that exist. Not only did Mr Howland have incredible access to the government figures of the day, but he was a highly skilled photographer who produced some stunning historical images and documented Washington D.C. in the 1930s like few others.
