Description

BOARD OF HEALTH ON WHEELS Washington, D.C. - July 8 - This unique trailer used by the Indiana State Board of Health as an office on wheels. It travels among children in the rural areas of Indiana and takes care of their dental needs, especially children who are financially unable to visit the dentist. The use of mobile health clinics like the one described was a significant innovation in public health during the early 20th century. These mobile units were essential in bringing healthcare services to underserved and remote communities, ensuring that children and families who otherwise lacked access to medical and dental care could receive necessary treatments. This initiative was part of broader efforts to improve public health and reduce health disparities in rural America. === This 7x10” original type 1 photograph is from the personal collection of photographer Wes Howland (1906-1956). Howland was a reporter with the Harris-Ewing news service in Washington D.C from 1931-1941, and went on to serve with the military. He was one of a small number of photographers with complete access to the White House, Capitol, Senate, and House. This photo was part of a collection of over 1200 8x10” Wes Howland personal archive images that we acquired from his estate. These original prints are exceptionally rare. Not only did Mr Howland have incredible access to the government figures of the day, but he was a highly skilled photographer who produced some stunning historical images and documented Washington D.C. in the 1930s like few others. This photo is a unique piece of history, and we trust you will enjoy it in your collection. We are happy to offer discounts if you order multiple photos.
